| Power Over Camera Link (PoCL) is a recent addition to the Camera Link specification allowing for camera power to be supplied over the Camera Link cable. This new standard for adding power was originally proposed by CIS Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) and later ratified by the Automated Imaging Association (AIA). PoCL provides many benefits. It allows for an easy single-cable integration, and because a separate power connector is not needed, cameras can be made smaller.
dPict Imaging was an early supoprter of the PoCL standard, partnering with CIS to show the PoCL concept in several trade shows in 2005 and 2006 with the Nexeon CL product. SafePower Since backwards compatiblity with non-PoCL products is a concern, the SafePower mode was designed to reduce accidental connections of non-compatible products that may result in damage. SafePower compatiblity is accomplished by incorporting a camera sensing circuit on the frame grabber that will only supply power after determining wheteher the connected camera is PoCL compatible. |
